Balvenie 12 Years DoubleWood Single Malt [700ML]

Balvenie Distillery is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Dufftown, Scotland and is owned by William Grant & Sons. William Grant was born on 19th December 1839 and at age seven, began herding cattle at a farm near the River Deveron. He left his bookkeeper job at Mortlach Distillery after 20 years and bought a field near Balvenie Castle. Grant drew up plans for his distillery and the foundation stone was first laid in the autumn of 1886. In 1892, work began to convert an 18th-century mansion called Balvenie New House into a distillery. The building process took 15 months to complete and the first distillation took place at the Balvenie Distillery on 1st May 1893. Grant remained active in the company until his death in 1923 at age 83.

Balvenie 12 Years DoubleWood was launched in 1993, using a process designed by our Malt Master David Stewart in 1982, now commonly known as ‘wood finishing’. A process whereby whisky are matured in one type of cask and then transferred into a second cask type, resulting in greater depth and complexity of the final flavour. Malt Master David Stewart received the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) from Queen Elizabeth II on July 2016 for his service to the Scotch whisky industry. Matured in American Oak Ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish oak Ex-Oloroso Sherry casks. Bottled at the standard 40% ABV.
